Bolesworth Marks 10 Years of Elite Auction Success with Outstanding 2025 Edition

Bolesworth celebrated a major milestone last night as it hosted the 10th edition of its Elite Foal and Yearling Auction. Now firmly established as a key fixture in the equestrian calendar, the event welcomed a full house of industry professionals, breeders, and buyers, both in person, online, and on the phones, all eager to invest in the sport’s next generation of talent.

Over the past ten years, the auction has developed a strong track record for identifying top-class showjumping prospects. Alumni from early editions of the sale are now making their mark on the international circuit – including FanFan De Beaufour with Shane Breen and Fara De Beaufour with Abdullah Ahmed Al Owais, both now competing at 1.60m Grand Prix level. Many others are performing successfully in international young horse classes across Europe. This year, the show has seen the return of Bolesworth Elite Auction graduates Cavalier HF, who won the CSIYH1* 6 year old class during week one with Emily Ward, as well as 8 year old stallion, Midnight, who jumped a clear round with Jay Halim in yesterday’s CSI4* 1.50m ranking class.

This year’s collection featured 25 hand-selected lots, all out of black-type dams and by some of the world’s most influential sires – with every horse selected for its potential to reach the highest levels of the sport.

The top yearling of the night was Lot 10, Klent Carry On, a full brother to 1.60m Grand Prix winner and World Cup finalist, Kick On. By Warrior and out of the renowned dam Sussex Caretino, who was sold for £35,000 to a UK syndicate comprising Chloe Breen, David Simpson, and Tim Gredley.

The top foal, Lot 20, Chaccolotte, generated strong interest and ultimately sold for £42,000. The striking filly is by the legendary Chacco Blue and out of Yuri Mansur’s top 1.60m mare Babylotte. Bred by Nina Barbour, she was also secured by the Breen-Simpson-Gredley syndicate, who recognised her as a serious investment for top-level sport.

Speaking on behalf of the syndicate, Chloe Breen said:

“I had instruction from Shane (Breen) in Aachen to bid….and make sure you bloody well get it, on Shirley Light’s gorgeous yearling, full brother to Lilly Keenan’s Kick On. Earlier in the night, David Simpson asked if he could go halves, and then just as the auction kicked off, Tim and Polly Gredley asked if they could go thirds! So our new syndicate “Auction Fever” was born! We then decided that as we all had more money left in the pot, that we should go again – we did bid on five but bought two, including the gorgeous filly foal by Chacco Blue.”

A particular highlight of the evening was Unikat, a ridden wild card entry and a clear crowd favourite. The eye-catching six-year-old coloured gelding by Ulyss Morinda, owned by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Al Shira’aa Farms, has already impressed on the international circuit, jumping clear in 5/5 six year-old classes at Montefalco CSI and delivering double clears in the CSIYH1* during week 1 of the Bolesworth International. He was secured for £52,000 to Great Britain’s Tia Posner.

This year’s auction featured three exceptional charity lots, with proceeds donated in support of Nature’s Safe and The Children of Palestine. Two of these lots were generously donated by HH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan: a dose of semen from the legendary Chacco Bay, and an exclusive and rare opportunity to secure a dose of semen from her Olympic stallion, Enjoy De La Mure, who is not available on the open market. This rare offering attracted significant interest and sold for £13,500.

Additionally, Lot 23 was also kindly put forward with proceeds generated going to charity – an implanted embryo lot by Diamant de Semilly, out of Isolde Van De Heffinck — the full sister to Harry Charles’ Paris Olympic gold medal-winning ride, Romeo 88.

Diamant de Semilly had an exceptional sporting career, including multiple championship performances with Eric Levallois and becoming the 2002 Team World Champion. This world class prospect was purchased for £26,000 by Al Shira’aa Farms.Bottom of Form

Commenting on the success of the collection, Nina Barbour, Managing Director of Bolesworth, said:

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see how far the auction has come over the past ten years, and even more so to see the success of so many of our graduates. We remain committed to sourcing and presenting the very best young horses for the top of the sport. Thank you to all the breeders, owners, and bidders who have supported the auction again this year.”

Talking on the value of auctions of this standard, spokesperson for the Auction Fever syndicate, Chloe Breen said:

As a fellow auction host – Breen & Brilliance – I think it’s really important to be seen to be buying at auctions. Put your money where your mouth is, so to speak. I think it’s a brilliant way to buy horses – it’s transparent, you have full veterinary disclosure and it also provides an insight into our sport – it’s also great fun….I didn’t wake up yesterday expecting to be a part of a new syndicate but now I have a new interest with some great friends that we will get great enjoyment out of following”
