At Bolesworth, sustainability is about creating efficient, resilient places while protecting the natural environment and supporting the communities around us.
Across our commercial property portfolio, we have invested in renewable and lower-carbon technologies, including solar panels and biomass heating systems. Building on this progress, we are working towards all commercial buildings achieving an EPC rating of C or above by 2030.

Our ongoing improvement programme includes:

  • Enhancing insulation and building performance
  • Upgrading lighting and heating systems
  • Improving energy monitoring and efficiency
  • Exploring additional renewable energy opportunities
  • Expanding EV charging infrastructure
  • Investing in cycle facilities and walking routes to encourage sustainable travel

Biodiversity & Nature Recovery

Protecting and enhancing the natural environment across the Estate is a key part of our sustainability strategy.

Since 2010, Tattenhall Wildlife Group has managed the wildlife corridor on Bolesworth land, with its licence recently renewed for a further five years. Together, we have delivered a range of conservation projects, including:

  • Restoration of the Mill Brook Wildlife Corridor
  • Creation of ponds, scrapes and wildflower habitats
  • Restoration of 200 metres of former railway line
  • Planting of 1,500 native trees at Jubilee Wood
  • Planting of a further 700 trees at Memorial Wood
  • Creation of two wildflower meadows
  • Development of permissive footpaths linking local walking routes

These habitats now support a rich variety of wildlife, including more than 20 species of butterfly, thriving vole populations and increasing numbers of barn owls.

Climate Resilience

Bolesworth has partnered with the Environment Agency to help improve flood protection within the local area.

Two phases of flood defence works have already been delivered on Estate land, helping protect Tattenhall against a 1-in-100-year storm event.

A potential third phase could extend these benefits further across the wider community.

Supporting Our Community

Sustainability extends beyond the environment and includes investing in the wellbeing of local people.

We provide funding to Transition Tattenhall’s Growing Children Project, helping local children learn about food growing and the natural environment through allotments located on Bolesworth land.

We also support a range of local organisations, including:

  • Local sports teams
  • Community groups
  • The church
  • The Barbour Institute

In addition, Bolesworth contributes £10,000 annually to Cheshire Community Foundation’s Cheshire West Fund, helping local charities and community projects make a lasting impact across the region.
